Center Welcome to the Wells Center. Founded in 1968, the mission at the Wells Center, formerly Jacksonville Area Council On Alcoholism (JACOA), has been to improve the health and welfare of individuals and families affected by the abuse of alcohol and other substances and by mental health issues. The Wells Center dedicates its efforts to providing levels of care and support services in settings approval to the individual needs of the patient. This mission to provide appropriate and compassionate care can promote healthy lifestyles and further the goal of total community wellness. Agency Profile Wells Center was established in 1968 by a group of civic-minded community members. Initial funding provided through a grant from the State of Illinois. A non-profit agency, Wells Center's mission included provision of treatment services to individuals and family members, as well as the delivery of prevention education programming to the entire community in an effort to achieve total community health. Originally serving Morgan, Scott, Greene, Calhoun and Jersey counties, residents, employers and health providers throughout central Illinois seek behavioral health services from the agency staff in both the Jacksonville and Jerseyville offices. Licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DHS/OASA), the agency maintains a certified staff with a vast menu of clinical specialty area. Identified as a preferred provider by a number of managed care companies, the agency pay or sources either from third-party, Medicaid and individual reimbursement to contracts with DHS/OASIS and the Illinois Department of Correction. Additional support is received from the United Way. The Wells Center actively participates in the varied activities and programs of the Child and Adolescent Local Area Network (LAN) and is actively involved in cooperative endeavors with many community agencies and organizations.
